Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad 4-6-2 Class S-2 2912 at an unknown location on an unknown date, photograph by Baldwin Locomotive Works, Chuck Zeiler collection.  Once upon a time you could purchase steam locomotive prints from a gentleman named Herbert L. Broadbelt.  This was one of those photos, an unusual action photo in the Baldwin Locomotive Works negative collection (note the negative number in the lower right).  It was undated and no location was noted.  I roughed in Denver...

Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad 2-6-0 Class H-1 35 at Paterson, New Jersey, sometime in 1891, photographer unknown, Chuck Zeiler collection.  This locomotive was built by the Rogers Locomotive & Machine Works of Paterson, New Jersey in 1891 (c/n 4642).  An interesting note about the Rogers Works (later, a subsidiary of Alco).  The Works did not have a direct rail connection.  The nearest railroad was the Erie, about a mile from the factory.   The finished locomotives were...

Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad 4-8-4 Class O-5-B 5632 at West Burlington, Iowa on September 26, 1965, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Number 5632 was built in this shop, completed in August 1940. It was selected for fan trip service in the 1960's, and was in the process of overhaul on this photo date. The event was a birthday special powered by diesel from Chicago to Galesburg and by 4960 from Galesburg to West Burlington and return. The plan had been to return 5632 to fan trip service,...

Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad 2-6-0 Class H-2 1303 presumed to be at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania sometime in 1898, photograph by Pittsburgh Locomotive and Car Works, Chuck Zeiler collection.  Built sometime during 1898 (c/n 1819), this was one of 14 class H-2 2-6-0's built by the Pittsburgh Works (which became part of Alco in 1901) and delivered to the CB&Q.  This particular locomotive was renumbered to 1180 during the 1904 system renumbering.  It was retired in July 1929.
